DREAD CARE
MAINTENANCE
Regular maintenance is important when wanting to keep the dreadlocks looking neat and tidy just as it is with any other hair cut/style there is upkeep. Regular maintenance also helps the dreadlocks to not grow out thinning as they get thinner and thinner over time as hair grows. Maintenance sessions also ensures that the dreads do not start fusing together at the base which can result in two or three dreadlocks forming into one. To keep ontop of maintenance and having dreadlocks looking neat , maintenance sessions every 3 months is recommended. The first 2 maintenance sessions for new dreadlocks are generaly essential.
SCALP
Scalp care is very important now. It is ESSESNTIAL to care for your scalp correctly. There are misconceptions that having dreadlocks is a dirty hairstyle and doesn’t need to be washed when nothing can be further from the truth. If your hair is oily or dry you must wash with the shampoo/ conditioner that suits your hair type. Dreaded heads can often get skin build ups and think they have dandruff so it is very important to wash regularly or at least rinse in fresh water and massage the scalp to remove skin build up. Isisknot stocks a wide range of dread care products. You MUST wash your scalp thoroughly with your fingers massaging your scalp to remove skin build up. This can get stuck in the dreadlocks and become visible.
SHAMPOOS/CONDITIONING
Normal shampoos and conditioners contain silicon. This is what makes the hair shiny and smooth and it stays on the hair in a coating. Isisknots range of Dreadlock shampoos and conditioners are recommended for use on your dreadlocks as they leave no build up on the hair and in the dreadlock. You can wash your hair whenever you need, the most important thing to do is to make sure you care for your scalp properly.
YOUR DREADLOCKS
Once dreadlocks are made it is then your responsibility to care for them. Everyones hair reacts different so it is up to you to take note of how your hair is tightening and take the appropriate steps to keep them looking how you want. Whether this is self maintenance or coming back for regular maintenance.
